2017 Sport So Far

2017 has already handed us some awesome sports moments. We’ll get to last nights highlights in a second but there are a few things in the last 30+ days that are worth a mention. We ended the year with the hyped up Ronda Rousey fight, that ended is 48 intense seconds. And there is still some action going on between Rousey and Nunes...

January is in the heart of the NCAA season and as we all know, no team is ever safe. Upsets and court stormings seem to be happening every weekend. By now, we know the buzz around Duke’s Grayson Allen and he once again was called for a tripping foul this past weekend. He just can’t find his way out of the controversy this season (with 2 months left). He might be giving Duke a worse reputation than they already have.

The NFL postseason might be one of the most exciting we’ve had in a few years! New Yorkers couldn’t have been any happier about their bid in but Aaron Rodgers was just an animal and quickly put that dream to rest. The Cowboys seemed like they were on track for an eventful post season but Rodgers again had different plans... He threw for 355 yards vs. the Cowboys. Long ball game. For Prescott’s first postseason, you gotta give it to him though. Amazing performance that came down to the last 30 secs (look forward to seeing the plan for Prescott next season though). But the last play from Rodgers to Cook was just top notch. And then to win on a 50+ field goal kick, classic!

Rodgers and the Packers obviously went down to the Falcons to put the Falcons in their second Superbowl of all time. Then there’s the Patriots. You hate to admit it but no one is surprised when they make it to the championship. Brady is easily the most recognized player of this generation and man did he show why last night. He threw for 466 yards when Matt Ryan only threw for 284. Ryan and the Falcons had it on lockdown going into the 4th and by that point half the Superbowl parties were clearing up and people were heading home. That last quarter was the best 15 mins of football I’ve seen in awhile. You gotta love when it comes down to a 2 point conversion. But there is no way I can talk about the ending without talking about the insanity of Julian Edelman’s catch.

Insane as it is, the Patriots came back from 20 points down. It’s unheard of. And on top of that they go into the first ever OT. People’s pool’s were in mayhem because no one knew what to do, no one knew who the 4th quarter winner was and who the final was. There was no stash of money prepared for an OT game. Anyway, my opinion on NFL OT is this: rebuttal. There should be a chance for both teams to make a play.

Either way, 2017 sports is off to quite a start. Can’t wait to see where NCAA basketball goes in the next month and half here. No predictions yet, teams are coming out of the woodwork for bids already though.
