I am annoyed, but not at all surprised, by the shenanigans caused by MLB umpire Angel Hernandez this week. This guy has been an arrogant screw up for a long long time. And he continues to be a fixture in baseball.
On Monday, there was the missed clear play at homeplate where the runner touched the plate but was called out. Then on Wednesday, with Oakland trailing by 1 to Cleveland in the 9th inning, Adam Rosales hit a ball that was called a double. Replays show it bounced off a rail above the yellow line clearly making it a homerun. After the umpires went in to review it, they upheld the double, puzzling the entire baseball world. The Indians were able to hang on and win the game.
MLB has said it was a mistake, but that doesn't help Oakland at this point. Peter Gammons said on Friday that he thinks Hernandez didn't correct the error out of protest of having replay at all. Yikes.
Action needs to be taken against Hernandez, who has a history or behavior that points to him wanting the attention. and limelight. Hernandez couldn't even handle being called out by an ex-Chicago Bear years ago, having guest 7th inning stretch conductor Steve McMichael thrown out of a Cubs/Rockies game at Wrigley Field. Check that video out below.
